Sea of Marmara

The Marmara Sea in Turkey offers many exceptional places for a visitor to discover. Located between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea, Marmara is more salty than these two, because it is an inland sea, thus making it perfect for swimming.

The Marmara Sea has 4 small islands, the most important of them being the Marmara Island. The island is known as one with great marble resources, in fact the island and the sea’s name derives from the Greek word for marble “marmara”. On the Marmara island, in the village of Saraylar, you will find an open air marble museum, well worth the visit.

But the Marmara Sea is more famous because of the cities and resorts that lie on its shores, like Istanbul, Tuzla, Gemlik, Silivri, Tekirdağ or Yalova.

Certainly, the most important of all these cities is Istanbul, but the other less known towns and cities are especially worth to visit because they are mostly untouched Turkish locations. Unlike the well known destinations you will find many charming places along the Marmara Sea, places of which you will be positively surprised.
